** 2014: iMedical Apps Top 10 Medical Apps for Cardiology **

Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS) are the most exhaustively studied clinical entities today. Advances in pharmacotherapy and procedural technique over the past thirty years have resulted in an explosion of clinical literature, which can be daunting and confusing for the caretaker of a patient with anginal symptoms.

ACS Trials brings you thorough and focused, MD-written summaries of over 80 seminal trials of ACS that have given rise to current practice. The easy-to-use interface and layout provide quickly accessible one-liner ‘soundbytes’ as well as deeper insights and historical context of important trials that have emerged during the evolution of ACS management.

Whether you’re a medical student whose attending is asking, “What’s the evidence for aspirin?”, a nurse practitioner wondering whether to continue the eptifibatide drip when the stent is already in place, a cardiology fellow who can’t remember the loading dose of ticagrelor, or a cath fellow making sure you’re right about bivalirudin before the interventionalist yells at you, ACS Trials is a must-have.

Each trial summary contains:
↝ One-liner Take Home Message
↝ Background, Historical Context, and Insights
↝ Trial design & length of follow-up
↝ Inclusion & Exclusion Criteria
↝ Methods, including dosing protocols, timing/duration of interventions, and relevant background medical therapies
↝ Baseline Patient Characteristics
↝ Results
↝ Funding sources
↝ Pertinent CC/AHA Guidelines
↝ References
↝ Direct links Full-Text manuscripts (if available)

**FAST & EASY TO FIND WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR**
Trials are sortable by name, date of publication, subject, and drug name; can be filtered by patient populations enrolled (only STEMI, only UA/NSTEMI, or both); and are discoverable via a convenient search feature which indexes keywords, generic and brand drug names, and more.

**FREE MEDICAL CALCULATORS, courtesy of MEDIMATH**
30+ medical calculators useful for anyone who helps treat cardiac patients, including
↝ ACS (e.g., TIMI, GRACE, CRUSADE bleeding risk, contrast-induced nephropathy risk)
↝ Stress-testing (e.g., Duke treadmill score, target heart rate)
↝ Arrhythmias (e.g., CHADS2, calculated QTc)
↝ Lipids (e.g., calculated LDL, ATP III guidelines, Framingham cardiac risk)
↝ Hemodynamics (e.g., aortic valve continuity equations, Fick cardiac output)
↝ and MORE!!!

Pros and cons of ACS Trials app for iPhone and iPad

ACS Trials app good for

Very easy and useful for a resident looking for the papers to support clinical decisions and memorize the landmark trials.
Easy use when having a question and needing a fast answer about a study.
Would be great if it were expanded to include CHF trials too!!

Some bad moments

I found the ACS Trials app to be a fantastic resource for patient care. The brief synopsis of key study findings, accompanied by a review of the actual study results and discussion of potential problems with the study are all excellent. The accompanying Calculator provides ready access to many different key calculations that are frequently used and the calculator is very user friendly. I think this resource will be a great aide to cardiologists and other internists and will be a great aide to fellows, residents, and medical students who we expect to know the evidence bade behind the major therapies used in IHD, CHF, and other major cardiac conditions. I give this app a 5 Star rating!
Solid content; easily navigable; user friendly interface; terrific app overall!
There are so many landmark articles on ACS, and Ive always found it difficult to keep them straight. This is a great resource to have at your fingertips. Its easily searchable by keyword which allows me to find the article Im looking for in seconds. The content is very easy to read, and the "Take Home Message" section is very useful. I highly recommend ACS Trials.
I feel so smart when I cite the study after giving the type of meds
Great job creating a user-friendly app that helps everyone on the job! Thanks!
Would like to this app grow with more trial data. Good start.
